India’s blind women’s cricket team created a heartwarming echo of Harmanpreet Kaur’s celebration after their historic triumph in the inaugural Blind Women’s World Cup T20. After beating Nepal by seven wickets in Colombothe Indian players ran onto the pitch waving the tricolor in pure joy.
As TC captain Deepika collected the winners’ trophy, she recreated Harmanpreet’s now-iconic celebration from the Women’s World Cup earlier this month. Harmanpreet strode confidently to receive the trophy from ICC Chairman Jay Shah, playfully offered it to her teammates and finally raised it high with the entire team in an emotional and unified moment. Deepika mirrored this gesture almost exactly.
The moment looked more than just a trophy lift – it symbolized the passing of the baton, with the two Indian women’s teams celebrating parallel historic firsts and showcasing the growing strength of women’s cricket at all levels.
INDIA RULES NEPAL IN FINAL
Opting to field first, India immediately took command with their bowlers producing disciplined spells to restrict Nepal to 114/5 in 20 overs. Accurate lines, sharp fielding and sustained pressure never allowed the opposition to break free, creating the ideal platform for confident pursuit.
The batsmen were brilliant, racing to 100 in just 10 overs and dictating the pace from the start. Opener Phula Saren produced a superb innings as he smashed 44 off 27 balls with four crisp boundaries at an impressive strike rate of 162.96. Her commanding knock virtually sealed the contest and the graceful leg at 13th finished the Indian title.
Saren also contributed with the ball, capping off a decisive all-rounder by conceding just 20 runs to cement India’s overall dominance. Her outstanding efforts earned her the Player of the Match award, underscoring the value of poise and leadership under pressure.
