Watch: Shubman Gill goes full throttle in IPL preparation, leaves T20 World Cup behind

February 20, 2026

Shubman Gill was in a destructive mood during Gujarat Titans’ session and the viral video of him smashing towering sixes already set the tone for IPL 2026. The GT skipper looked sharp and aggressive as he started his preparations for the upcoming season.

The clip quickly gained traction online and fans were excited to see Gill back on the beat. More than just pre-season knocks, it was a statement from a player eager to move on from a difficult international stage.

Watch the video here:

Gill endured a difficult few months. A neck injury interrupted his momentum and a tough series against South Africa in Tests and ODIs brought further scrutiny. The disappointment deepened when was left out of India’s T20 World Cup 2026 squad after failing to hit in the run-up T20Is.

With India now focused on their Super 8 campaign, Gill’s focus has shifted firmly to franchise cricket. Gujarat Titans have started their camp and their skipper seems determined to start early and strong.

PREPARATION MODE ON

The networking session showed clear intent. Not only did Gill time the ball sweetly, but he consistently targeted the stands, working on his range and power hitting.

After briefly opening alongside Abhishek Sharma in India’s T20I experiments, Gill failed to cement his place before the World Cup squad was finalised. The IPL now becomes his immediate phase to reassert his credentials with the white ball.

IPL RECORD BUILDING EXPECTATIONS

Gill’s IPL 2025 campaign has underlined his value. He finished as the fourth highest run scorer with 650 runs in 15 matches, at an average of 50 at a strike rate of 155.88. Despite his consistency, Gujarat Titans were knocked out by Mumbai Indians in the Eliminator.

The new season offers a reset. As captain, Gill will be looking to not only score big but push deeper into the playoffs.

If early signals from the networks are anything to go by, Gill has already begun to respond.
