Samson entered the T20 World Cup after a disappointing T20I series against New Zealand, where he managed just 46 runs in five matches at an average of 9.20, which put his place in the lineup in doubt.
He bounced back brilliantly in the World Cup, scoring three consecutive half-centuries and returning to form. Samson was named player of the tournament as India won their third title, finishing as the third highest run-scorer with 321 runs in five matches at an average of 80.25 and a strike rate of 199.37.
He thus set a new record most runs by an Indian in a single World Cup Men’s T20he surpassed Virat Kohli’s 319 in 2014. He scored 89 in the final, the highest individual score in the history of a T20 World Cup final, surpassing Marlon Samuels’ 85 against England at the Eden Gardens in 2016. He was also named in the ICC Team of the Tournament.
