
After Air India and IndiGo, Akasa Air has now decided to introduce a fuel surcharge due to the rise in jet fuel prices for turbines amid the US-Israel war in Iran. The fee will apply to flights booked from 15 March 2026 at 01:01.
“At Akasa Air, we remain focused on providing warm and efficient customer service, reliable operations and affordable prices while maintaining the highest standards of operational efficiency,” the statement said.
“We will continue to closely monitor the operating environment and regularly review the fuel surcharge,” the airlines said.
Air India, Air India Express and IndiGo have started charging similar fees for domestic and international tickets.

Akasa Air said in a statement on Saturday, March 14 that it will introduce a fuel surcharge ranging from ₹199 to ₹1,300 on domestic and international routes, “for all bookings made with effect from 12:01 AM on March 15, 2026.”
“The fuel surcharge will be applied per sector and will vary depending on the length of the flight,” Akasa Air said.
Meanwhile, Air India, Air India Express and IndiGo have provided regional fuel charges to be added to air fares from March 12, March 14 and March 18 respectively.
Air India
Air India Group has announced a phased increase in fuel surcharge that will see air travelers see a fixed increase in ticket prices from March 12.
An Air India statement issued on March 10 said, “The new fuel surcharges are being implemented in three phases, covering travel on all flights, including those operated by Air India Express.”
The regional surcharges were as follows:
Phase 1 (for all new bookings made from 0001 hours IST on 12 March 2026):
Phase 2 (for all new bookings made from 0001 hours IST on 18 March 2026):
This was announced by Air India Group Phase 3 will cover markets in and out of the Far East – namely Hong Kong, Japan and South Korea, “to be announced in due course”.
Indigo
IndiGo on Friday said it will start charging fuel charges ranging from ₹425 to ₹2,300 on domestic and international tickets from March 14 amid a spike in jet fuel prices due to the West Asian crisis.
