India’s National Cricket Team batter, Shreyas Iyer, delivered a commendable performance in the ongoing match against the New Zealand National Cricket Team. The game, held at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, marks the final group stage encounter of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
Shreyas Iyer stepped up when India was struggling at 30/3, playing a crucial role in stabilizing the innings. Partnering with Axar Patel, who scored 42, Iyer led a resilient 98-run partnership for the fourth wicket, anchoring the team’s recovery.
Iyer displayed exceptional composure, particularly against the spinners, showcasing precise footwork and consistent scoring. After initially targeting the fast bowlers, he ensured the spinners were unsettled, guiding the team past 150 runs with relative ease.
The middle-order batter notched up his second consecutive half-century in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, further cementing his reputation as India’s premier No. 4 batsman. His golden form with the bat remained evident as he continued to deliver under pressure.
However, Iyer’s promising innings was cut short as New Zealand employed a strategic short-ball tactic. William O’Rourke’s delivery, angling off, forced Iyer into a mistake. The batter’s bottom hand slipped as he miscued the shot, sending the ball high into the air. Will Young, positioned at mid-wicket, took a well-judged catch despite an initial juggle, ending Iyer’s stay at the crease.
The dismissal sparked an amusing reaction from New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner, who winked at his bowler and flashed a sly smile, clearly pleased with the success of their plan.
