Kolkata Knight Riders could face a major setback ahead of IPL 2026 after fast bowler Harshit Rana was spotted on crutches during the BCCI Naman Awards in Mumbai. The development has raised fresh concerns about his fitness and availability for the upcoming season.
Temper attended the ceremony on 15 March but was unable to take the stage to collect the award for Best International Debut (Male). IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal instead presented the tribute to Rana after he walked the podium himself.

Harshit Rana’s injury is quite serious. He is unable to walk properly and uses a cane to walk. Even then, Naman came to the award ceremony today. If he didn’t come, it would be completely understandable. Due to this injury, he will not play this year either pic.twitter.com/KIGdiSdHYV— (@rushiii_12) March 15, 2026
A video of Rana arriving at the event on crutches quickly went viral on social media, further fueling speculation about the extent of his injury and whether he would be fit in time for the IPL.
WHAT IS HARSHIT RANA INJURY?
Harshit Rana suffered a knee injury during the T20 World Cup warm-up match against South Africa earlier this year.
The injury turned out to be serious enough to rule him out of India’s T20 World Cup campaignwith Mohammed Siraj called up as his replacement in the squad.
Rana later underwent a knee surgery in Mumbai on February 9. According to medical reports, the fast bowler is expected to take two to three months to fully recover.
While the surgery was a success, the recovery timeline seriously casts doubt on his participation in IPL 2026.
KKR’S INJURY PROBLEMS AHEAD OF IPL 2026
Rana’s potential absence could significantly weaken Kolkata Knight Riders’ bowling attack. The young pacer was a key member of the KKR team that won the title in 2024 and also played an important role for the franchise in the following season.
Things get complicated for KKR as Mustafizur Rahman is no longer part of the squad while Sri Lankan pacer Matheesha Pathirana is still dealing with fitness issues.
The franchise brought fast bowler Blessing Muzarabani to Zimbabwe as a fallback option, but filling Rana’s role in the bowling attack may not be easy.
KKR’s biggest worry will be finding an Indian paceman capable of handling the pressure in the death overs, an area where Rana has developed into a reliable option.
Apart from Rana, the pace team currently includes Vaibhav Arora, Umran Malik, Kartik Tyagi and Akash Deep. Without the young fast bowler, the unit could look a lot less experienced heading into IPL 2026.
