Cricket rarely disappoints when it comes to comedy and Ishan Kishan produced one of the funniest moments of India’s Zimbabwe tour with a botched mistake that left the fans in awe.

The bizarre incident occurred on the penultimate ball of Ravi Bishnoi’s fifteenth over during Zimbabwe’s chase in the second T20I in Harare on Saturday. Tadiwanashe Marumani poked the ball deep behind but what followed looked straight out of a comedy sketch.

Marumani had absolutely no interest in a second run and waved his bat and arms desperately at partner Newman Nyamhuri who was already hurtling down the field. Within seconds, both Zimbabwean batsmen found themselves stranded at the bowler’s end, leaving the striker’s wicket completely empty.

With the toss safely in his gloves, Kishan looked to have the easiest escape of his career. Except… he didn’t realize it.

Instead of dropping the bails or hitting the ball to Bishnoi, the wicketkeeper casually bowled an underarm that barely flew to mid-pitch. The opportunity was gone before he realized the chaos unfolding before him.

Kishan could only put his hand on his head with an expression that said it all, “Oops, I totally missed that!” The hilarious rant quickly went viral on social media, with fans hailing it as one of the series’ funniest moments.

Fortunately for Kishan, his memorable moment behind the stumps came after he had already done so made a game-winning impact with the bat.

The left-hander was in superb touch, smashing 81 off just 44 deliveries, an innings studded with nine fours and two sixes. He batted at No.3 and shared a 94-run partnership with Tilak Varma, who remained unbeaten on 60 as India posted an impressive 219/5.

Zimbabwe’s chase never really got going despite Brian Bennett getting off to a flying start. Abhishek Sharma claimed three wickets while Yash Thakur and Prince Yadav claimed two each as the hosts were bowled out for 129 in 17.5 overs.

India sealed a commanding 90-run win and ensured that Kishan’s comical lapse in the field became little more than a viral topic rather than a costly mistake.

It wasn’t the cleanest bit of goal you’ll ever see, but it was certainly one of the most entertaining.
