For a brief moment, the years seemed to roll back for former India fast bowler and current Karnataka State Cricket Association president Venkatesh Prasad as he stepped out of his car into an unexpected hailstorm in Bengaluru. Prasad shared a video on social media where he can be seen enjoying the sudden change in the city’s weather, even stopping his car to collect hail pellets from the road as a child.
Sudden hail and heavy rain lashed parts of Bengaluru on April 29, prompting an orange warning from the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Thunderstorms, lightning and winds of up to 50 km/h disrupted normal life in several areas. While the spell brought much-needed relief from the heat, it also caused temporary chaos on key roads and low-lying areas of the city.
A sudden burst of ice balls transformed the cityscape and evoked nostalgia for Prasad. It wasn’t just about the weather; it was a fleeting throwback to the carefree days of childhood, when such unexpected moments were seen as an invitation to put everything on hold and simply play. The former walker seemed to fully embrace the feeling as he interacted with the hail covered roads during a brief spell.
“When hail hits you, you don’t ask questions, you just become a kid again! As they say, Dil toh bachcha hai ji!” Prasad posted on his social media page along with a viral video which quickly started going viral online.
The video shows Prasad first getting out to observe the hail and then playfully picking up ice pellets scattered on the roadside. In a light-hearted moment, he is also seen walking back to his car and with a childish grin pops a ball of hail into his mouth, reflecting his spontaneous reaction to the unusual weather.
The clip quickly gained traction on social media, with users appreciating the former cricketer’s hilarious reaction to the sudden change in weather. Many residents across Bengaluru also resonated with the moment as hailstorms arrived after several days of intense heat, offering an unexpected but welcome break.
The sudden storm took residents by surprise and briefly turned parts of the city into an icy landscape. One of the most striking visuals came from the Kanteerava Stadium, where the ground was covered in a thick layer of hail, creating a rare white blanket-like appearance that is rarely seen in Bengaluru’s climate.
