The timing of the video only added to the buzz around the youngster, especially after CSK paid a hefty price to secure his services in the IPL 2026 auction. The five-time champions stunned many splashing Rs 14.20 crore on a 20-year-old all-rounder from Uttar Pradesh.
WHO IS PRASHANT VEER?
The young all-rounder from Amethi in Uttar Pradesh is steadily building a reputation as one of the most exciting emerging talents in Indian domestic cricket. Veer is an orthodox left-arm spinner who bats left-handed, a rare combination that makes him a valuable asset in the T20 format.
His style of play has already drawn comparisons with Ravindra Jadeja — a player who has long been a mainstay of CSK’s set-up. Interestingly, the comparison intensified after Jadeja moved to Rajasthan Royals ahead of IPL 2026, with Sanju Samson heading to CSK as part of the deal.
Veer entered the IPL 2026 auction with a modest base price of Rs 30 crore, but the bidding quickly picked up steam. Lucknow Super Giants and Mumbai Indians initially showed interest before CSK and Rajasthan Royals joined the fray once the price crossed the Rs 4 crore mark.
As the numbers continued to rise, Rajasthan eventually relented after the bid crossed Rs 6 crore. However, CSK remained determined and continued to push the price up before finally sealing the deal at Rs 14.20 crore, making Veer one of the most expensive uncapped players in IPL history.
Veer first made headlines through his performances in domestic competitions and the UP T20 League, where he represented Noida Super Kings. During the 2025 UP T20 League, he impressed with both bat and ball, scoring 320 runs at a strike rate of around 155, including three half-centuries.
He also performed solidly in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. In seven matches, Veer has scored 112 runs at a strike rate of 169.69 and an average of 37.33. He took nine wickets with the ball, maintaining an average of 18.77 and an economy rate of 6.76.
