A video shared by a woman named Anusha from Bhutan praising India’s first sleeper train Vande Bharat has gone viral on social media and has drawn widespread attention to the country’s newest railway offering.
Journey maker, Anusha, documented her journey on the inaugural run of the Vande Bharat sleeper service between Kamakhya and Howrah, which was flagged off earlier this week. In an Instagram video titled Foreigner POV: Vande Bharat Sleeper Train, he is seen highlighting the modern design of the train and the amenities on board.
“This is a Vande Bharat sleeper train from Guwahati to Kolkata. I am traveling on it on the very first day,” he says in the clip, adding that the train appeared to be fully booked on its first journey. He points to features such as the sleek exterior, automatic glass doors, bright interior and comfortable seats, noting that it feels significantly different from conventional long-distance trains.
“The Vande Bharat sleeper doesn’t feel like a typical train,” he notes, praising the overall experience, including the food served on board. She added that if this is what the future of train travel in India looks like, she finds it impressive.
Sharing the video, Anusha wrote that she traveled by train on the day of his inauguration from Guwahati to Kolkata and was “honestly very impressed”.
The clip has crossed more than 115,000 views, with many users applauding the traveler for showcasing what they called the positive and modern side of India’s railway infrastructure.
A user wrote: “Wow, it’s so clean and looks like the trains in Europe. I hope they keep it clean.”
Another user wrote: “I want to see a review after 1 to 3 months. I want to see how my fellow Indians feel about this train. Govt has done its job, now it’s our turn to keep our civic sense.”
“Future is more fantastic with Vande Bharat 4.0 under construction 280 km/h Next gen High Speed with 320 km/h. Along with Bullet 🚅 Train at 350 km/h,” wrote a third user.
The Vande Bharat sleeper train was inaugurated last week by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, marking the first commercial introduction of the sleeper version of the Vande Bharat semi-high speed fleet operated by Indian Railways.
The Kamakhya–Howrah service is expected to significantly improve overnight connectivity between Northeast and East India, offering faster travel, improved amenities and a more comfortable long-distance rail travel experience.
