Stefon Diggs of the New England Patriots has been in the spotlight since a post went viral that claimed the 32-year-old National Football League (NFL) athlete was arrested before the Super Bowl clash with the Seattle Seahawks. Hours before Sunday’s matchup with the Seahawks at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif., a viral post by Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs sparked concern among fans.
A post on X that claimed Stefon Diggs had been arrested said: “Patriots WR Stefon Diggs was arrested early this morning for aggravated assault on a robot outside a hotel in Santa Clara. He is still expected to play tonight at SBLX.”
What is the truth behind the arrest of Stefon Diggs?
However, the post was apparently a parody of the satirical X account. In less than twenty-four hours, the post already has over 982,700 views.
Almost two months ago, Diggs was charged with felony strangulation or suffocation and misdemeanor assault and battery. Those criminal charges stemmed from alleged disagreements with his chef over money. The NFL athlete is alleged to have assaulted the former personal chef on December 2, 2025 at his home in Dedham, Massachusetts during a dispute over payment.
The chef accused Diggs of choking her with an elbow bend, according to a TMZ report. She also claimed Diggs hit her and threw her on the bed during an argument over unpaid wages. She reported the incident to the police 14 days later, on December 16. Felony charges were formally filed against Diggs two weeks later.
Although Diggs and his legal team categorically deny the allegations, the case continues. The case was originally scheduled for January, but Diggs successfully secured a delay in his arraignment that allowed him to attend the Super Bowl without an immediate trial. The case is registered as of February 13.
The NFL has not yet reviewed the situation and is expected to discipline Diggs as a result of the allegations.
