India’s Ministry of External Affairs on Tuesday issued an advisory and shared helpline for Indian nationals in Iran amid escalating tensions between Tehran and Washington DC, which have been engaged in a war since February 28 this year.
“Due to the rapidly evolving situation in Iran, Indian nationals currently in Iran are advised to remain where they are, shelter in place and avoid further movement,” the MEA advisory said.
It also said that “The Embassy of India remains available to guide Indian nationals in Iran” and can be contacted through the following helpline numbers:
+98 912 810 9115, +98 912 810 9102, +98 912 810 9109, +98 993 217 9359.
Email ID: cons.tehran@mea.gov.in was also shared.
The MEA also said that “any movement in Iran and to Iranian border crossings can be considered only in close coordination with the Indian Embassy in Tehran and after receiving express guidance from the Embassy”.
Trump warns Iran of annihilation
The recommendation comes amid a stern warning issued to Iran by US President Donald Trump, who warned the former president of wiping out an entire civilization if it does not open the Strait of Hormuz by a deadline.
In a message on his social media platform TruthSocial on Tuesday, the US President said: “All civilization will die tonight and never be brought back. I don’t want it to happen, but it probably will. Now that we have a Complete and Total Regime Change where different, smarter and less radicalized minds prevail, maybe something revolutionary wonderful can happen, WHO KNOWS, WHO KNOWS? We will find out the most important moment in the long and complex history of the world. 47 years of extortion, corruption and death are finally over!
“However, now that we have a Complete and Total regime change, where other, smarter and less radicalized minds prevail, maybe something revolutionary wonderful can happen, WHO KNOWS? We will find out tonight, one of the most important moments in the long and complex history of the world,” the US president also said.
Tehran creates human chains around power plants
Iranians in the city of Ilam formed a human chain on Tuesday to demonstrate their defiance against Trump’s remarks. According to Iran’s Tasnim news agency, the rally was organized to denounce the US administration’s warning of possible strikes on Iran’s critical infrastructure, which includes bridges and power plants.
This mobilization is in line with Iran’s national efforts to protect its strategic assets. Amid rising tensions and US threats against civilian infrastructure, and now Trump warning of potential total destruction, Iran’s Deputy Sports Minister Alireza Rahimi has called on the nation’s athletes and artists to form “human chains” around the power plants. This is seen as a symbolic and physical attempt to deter potential airstrikes after a series of concrete ultimatums from the US administration.
