On Thursday (April 3, 2025), the chairman of the parliamentary party of Sonia Gandhi’s Congress described the draft law of WAQF (amendment) as a “harsh attack” on the institute and stated that it is part of the BJP strategy to keep the company in a state of “permanent polarization”.
Hours after Lok Sabha passed through the bill, Mrs. Gandhi said it was “bulated” in the lower chamber.
She addressed a deputy of the parties at the meeting of the parliamentary party of the Congress in Samvidhan Sadan in Delhi and also stated that one nation, one election bill is another submission of the Constitution and the party would oppose it strongly.
“Yesterday, the law on amendment WAQF, 2024 was passed at Lok Sabha, and today it is planned to appear in Rajya Sabha. The bill was bullditized.
Lok Sabha approved the draft law of WAQF (amendment) after midnight after a 12 -hour debate. The bill was approved after all changes moved by the opposition members were rejected by voice votes. It was handed over after the votes division, 288 in favor and 232 against. The bill now comes on Thursday in Rajya Sabha.
“The intention of demolishing the Institute”
The former President of Congress also stated that their request for immediate implementation of the Women’s Reservation Act, which is going through both houses two years ago, continues to be deliberately ignored together with another demand for one third of the women’s planned caste, planned tribes and communities.
“Whether it is education, civil rights and freedoms, our federal structure or election behavior, the government Modi pulls the country to the abyss, where our constitution will remain on paper and we know that their intention is to destroy it,” she accused.
“It is essential for us so that we can all continue to fight for what is right and fair, to reveal the failure and intention of Modi’s government to turn India into a supervisory state,” Mrs. Gandhi said at a meeting.
All party deputies, including the President of the MALLIKARJUN KHARGE Congress and the opposition leader at Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, were present at the meeting.
Mrs. Gandhi also said that they repeatedly raise the question of free and fair elections and the need for parliament to discuss the functioning of the election commission and its “opaque” rules and procedures, some of which are currently at the Supreme Court.
She focused on the Prime Minister and accused him of rebranding, repacking and introducing numerous initiatives received in 2004–2014 as his own personal achievements.
It must also be exposed to our own public field activities, she said.
“Lops was not allowed to speak in parliament”
When she talked about the functioning of both houses of Parliament, she accused that opposition leaders were not allowed to speak and it is often found that the benches of the Ministry of Finance create disruption so that the congress does not allow their problems.
“It is a matter of serious concern to our democracy that Lop in Lok Sabha must not speak. Similarly, again and again, Lop in Rajya Sabha, Khargeji must also not say what he wants to say and really have to say.
“Like you, I have witnessed how the house will be postponed, not for us, but because of the protests of the Ministry of Finance themselves. It is quite extraordinary and shocking to prevent the opposition from arouse their concerns that would put the government in place,” she said.
She noted that BJP members aggressively focus on the state governments dominated by congress with “total library”, and called on parties to be equally aggressive and increase failure and incorrect administration in BJP States. This will mean much more pointed homework and research on our part, she noted.
CPP chairman said that Congress deputies effectively emphasized the true state of the economy and revealed a huge abyss between what the government claims, and what is a great reality in relation to price increases, unemployment and increasing inequalities.
She also appreciated the role played by the leaders of Congress, who are chairmen of parliamentary committees for providing violent leadership.
“You used these reports to create a larger consensus to make the government responsible. This is especially true in agriculture, rural development and education,” she said.
Debate requests have been rejected
However, Mrs. Gandhi said their requirements for a number of public importance issues rejected the ruling party.
“Gone are the days when the ruling party was a helpful opposition when debates and discussions took place in both houses, and as MEPs we were looking forward to them,” she said.
She said they wanted a detailed discussion of the work of ministries of defense and external items in Lok Sabha, because both of these entities have critical importance due to the increasingly turbulent political atmosphere in our neighborhood, but that was forbidden.
The former President of Congress said the party was looking for a discussion in both houses about the serious challenges that China presents on our borders, and the “shocking clean purity” given to him by the Prime Minister of June 19, 2020.
The leader of the congress urged to strengthen the deputies outside parliament on issues of dilution of RTI, MGNGA, the Act on Forest Rights and the Land of Land.
