Walmart’s digital platforms suffered a widespread outage on Tuesday (Dec. 3), leaving thousands of customers across the United States unable to access the retailer’s website and mobile app.
User complaints spiked throughout the day, with reports more than doubling to 6,457 by late afternoon, indicating a significant disruption to Walmart’s online services, according to outage-tracking website Downdetector.
The website and apps are affected
Customers reported that Walmart’s official website either failed to load or repeatedly displayed error messages, while the mobile app crashed shortly after opening. Many users reported that they were unable to browse products, log into their accounts, or complete purchases.
The outage extended beyond core e-commerce and affected grocery pickup scheduling, account access and entertainment features associated with Walmart’s partner streaming services.
Shopping interrupted during peak hours
The timing of the outage compounded frustration as shoppers tried to take advantage of post-holiday sales and prepare for New Year’s celebrations. Customers reported being unable to add groceries, electronics and household items to their carts or proceed to checkout.
Several users reported that families preparing for New Year’s Eve gatherings were experiencing delays in ordering last-minute party supplies and essentials.
Walmart’s response
At the time of publication, Walmart’s official help account had not publicly acknowledged the outage. Customer service channels reportedly asked users for more details, but did not issue a statement explaining the cause or provide an estimated resolution time.
What users can expect
It remains unclear what triggered the outage or when services will be fully restored. Customers are encouraged to monitor Walmart’s official support channels for updates and check back later if they continue to have access issues.
