The Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) has announced that all engineering students under its jurisdiction will henceforth have to develop a prototype project, either machinery or services. A separate application will be developed to monitor these projects, said prof. S. Vidya Shankar, Vice-Chancellor, VTU.

Addressing a press conference in the city on Friday, he said students must come forward, identify problems in various fields, analyze them and find solutions by the end of the first semester. VTU will award students one credit for this. “This will provide the students with the necessary skill training and real-time work experience and make them employable. VTU will include skill programmes, prototyping, idea development and design thinking in the first semester to turn students into entrepreneurs instead of job seekers,” he said.

“A separate application will be developed to track these projects and students will have to upload the prototypes they have developed into this application. These will be examined and credit points will be assigned,” explained Prof. Vidya Shankar.

VTU has already imparted training to 2,000 students in collaboration with ERA Foundation in this regard, he said, adding that a demonstration of prototypes developed by these students would be organized at all VTU centers on February 28.

ASI training

VTU has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Chiac ASI, a UK-based company said to be one of the first super intelligence firms to train engineers in Artificial Super Intelligence (ASI), the technology of the future.

“ASI is ready to create a revolution by 2030 while mastering the ever-expanding artificial intelligence. By accepting this, VTU students will be introduced to the future technology. In addition, Chiac ASI will provide free internships to more than a thousand students and ASI textbooks to technical college lecturers for effective teaching. These are not ordinary books; rather, it is a self-updating research that is also developed as a research textbook. lecturers of this technology in VTU-affiliated colleges.” he added.

Chandrashekar Nagaraju, Director General, Chiac ASI said that from the point of view of national security, it is imperative for India to establish leadership in ASI by 2030. “The United States of America (US) and China are already advancing technology at a great speed. In this regard, our aim is to mold a million engineering talents in India to work in this field. ASI-trained qualified engineers are a very significant contribution to the nation.” he said.
