In a major development in the Sabarimala gold theft probe, the Kollam vigilance court on Saturday reportedly handed over the scientific analysis report of the gold-plated artefacts at the Lord Ayyappa temple to the Special Investigation Team (SIT). The analysis was carried out by the Vikram Sarabhai Space Center (VSSC) as directed by the Kerala High Court. Based on chemical and forensic testing of specific samples, including the Dwarapalaka sculptures and the Sreekovil doorframe, the report will confirm whether the original gilded plates have been replaced with copper replicas. The SIT is expected to submit this report to the High Court on Monday.
Meanwhile, senior Tantri Kandararu Rajeevaru has been remanded in 14-day judicial custody through video conferencing in connection with the theft of gold from the Dwarapalaka statues, another charge after his earlier arrest in connection with the Sreekovil door jambs. Besides, the court posted the bail application of prime accused Unnikrishnan Potti for consideration on Monday. Mr Potti is seeking statutory bail on the basis that he has completed 90 days in custody.
