
Former Chief Minister of Keraly vs Achuthanandan died in Thiruvananthapurama on Monday (July 21, 2025) due to age -related diseases. He was 101.
VS, as he was kindly known, was a symbol of resistance, the integrity and century of a long commitment to the working class in the state. Communist statwart became a moral compass for the left movement in India and his life reflected the development of communist policy in the country.
Achuthanandan was born in 1923 in the coastal village of Punnapra, Alappuzha and was formed by poverty and early loss, which forced him to work at the age of 11. He attracted to the fight for freedom and movement of workers, joined the Communist Party as a teenager. Over the decades, he became a key organizer of land reforms and trade unions, surviving arrests, underground life and rivalry with internal parties. He was among the founding CPI leaders (m) in 1964 after the party was divided – a decision that formed Indian left policy for generations.
Achuthanandan often often moved in his own side for uncompromising stalls, gaining mass attraction for his crusades against corruption, ground mafia and non -ongism.
His possession of the main Minister Kerala (2006 – 2011) at the age of 82 was marked by courageous events, including the eviction of illegal interventions in Munnar and renewed pressure on the development of the IT sector. Even at the age of 90, he remained for pure policy by gathering and admired admiration across the political spectrum.
