
Former Chief Minister of Keraly and veteran Marxist leader Vs Achuthanandan died on Monday, July 21. He was 101 years old.
The veteran head died in a private hospital in Thiruvananthapurama while undergoing treatment after cardiac arrest in June, said the State Secretary of CPI (m) MV Govindan.

Achuthanandan, kindly known as VS, worked as the main minister of Kerala from 2006 to 2011 and was elected seven times to the State Assembly and served three conditions as the opposition leader.
Former Kerala CM was a founding member of the Indian Communist Party (Marxist) and a lifelong champion of workers’ rights, land reforms and social justice.
Vs political career
In 1964, Achuthanandan left the Communist Party of the Indian (CPI) of the National Council to become one of the founding members of the detached CPI (M), Hindu informed.
From 1980 to 1992 he worked as the Secretary of the State Committee for the CPI State Committee (M).
As part of the Legislative Assembly in Kerala in 1967, 1970, 1991 and 2001, he also served as the leader of the opposition from 1992 to 1996 and again from 2001 to 2005.
In 2006, Achuthanandan from the Malampuzha constituency won and became the 20th Minister of Keraly.
According to Manoram Online, Vs Achuthanandan was away from active policy for age -related diseases.

In October last year, Vs Achuthanandan turned around as the “revolutionary sun” Keraly, Vs Achuthanandan.
He was born on October 20, 1923 to the workers of the PunnaPra family, the ALAPPUZHA district, Vs Achuthanandan studied up to the seventh standard before entering politics through trade union activism in the former Travancore.
Achuthanandan joined the State Congress in 1939 and in 1940 became a member of the Communist Party. His commitment to the party came up with significant hardships – he was imprisoned for more than five years and spent almost four and a half years underground, according to PTI.
