Voting begins for Delhi University Students’ College

Voting for the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) elections began on Friday (September 18, 2026) with students voting for four central panel posts and college representatives in a closely watched contest involving ABVP, NSUI and the AISA-SFI alliance.

Voting for students attending day classes will continue till 1 pm, while voting in evening schools will be held from 3 pm to 7.30 pm, officials said.

A total of 1,000 electronic voting machines (EVMs) were deployed for the elections. Of those, 960 will be used for voting, with 40 held in reserve, according to university officials.

Chief Electoral Officer Raj Kishore Sharma said 12 control rooms would remain operational during voting and technical experts would be available to deal with any glitch.

“Once the voting is over, the EVMs will be safely transported by the police to the multi-purpose hall of the University Sports Stadium, North Campus. The machines will be opened at the time of counting on Saturday,” Mr. Sharma said.

The vote count is scheduled for Saturday (September 19, 2026). Student welfare, campus facilities, hostel accommodation and security have emerged as key issues in DUSU’s election campaign, especially after the collapse of a five-storey PG building in Satya Niketan earlier this month that claimed the lives of seven people, including students.

The university has restricted vehicular movement on key stretches, including Chhatra Marg, Probyn Road and University Road, due to the election process. The restrictions will remain in place on Friday (September 18) and Saturday (September 19) until the results are declared, according to a university notice.
