A day after Vokkaliga community seer Nirmalanandanatha Swami publicly endorsed the chief ministerial ambitions of Deputy Chief Minister and KPCC president DK Shivakumar, the Vokkaligara Sangha has warned the Congress of possible electoral consequences if their leader does not become the Chief Minister.
Stating that the Vokkaliga community has supported the Congress in the 2023 assembly polls, Vokkaligara Sangha President L. Srinivas warned, “If he is cheated, we will teach the Congress a befitting lesson.”
Addressing a press meet here, Mr. Srinivas said the Vokkaligas would launch a protest if the KPCC chief was denied the post of chief minister. Sangh general secretary CG Gangadhar said the Congress won more seats in the Vokkaliga-dominated Old Mysore region thanks to Mr. Shivakumar.
Federation of Karnataka Depressed Communities convener KM Ramachandrappa said that 60% to 70% of the voters belonged to AHIDA. Congress came to power with the support of AHINDA voters. It was not good on the part of the party high command to change the chief minister midway, he said.
“We will not accept change of leadership and removal of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah from office,” he warned.
Sri Niranjananda Puri Swami of the Kaginele Mutt, a diviner of the Kuruba community to which Mr. Siddaramaiah belongs, said that according to the constitution, party legislators should decide who should become the chief minister.
Mr. Siddaramaiah’s son Yathindra Siddaramaiah, MLC, said in Mysuru that diviners should stay away from politics. He claimed: “Nobody ever talked about a power-sharing deal within the party, not even my father mentioned it.”
