(Toi) Bengaluru: The best coaches, as they say, are thieves who steal ideas from others to be on top of their game. Hockey India plans to do this only with its initiative for coaches with national teams. Its aim is to associate resources, borrow ideas and build teams for the future. Harendra Singh, an Indian head of a hockey coach, is the core of the initiative and believes it is a step in the right direction. On Tuesday at SAI at the South Center, when Indian hockey teams continue to reconstruct the Olympic Games in Paris 2028, Harendra said that the country should have internal coaches and use their expertise, especially if it plans to host the Olympic Games 2036.“The process of building teams should also include coaches,” Harendra said. “I feel that many Indian coaches want to work at a higher level, but either has no opportunities or do not hesitate. When choosing coaches for Harendra’s weekly program, Hockey India and we were sitting together and decided to call coaches from different state units and academies that we think can help Indian hockey for the future.Harendra insists that this is a long -term investment. “It is definitely not like immediate coffee, but the initiative will apply to rich dividends in the long run. These coaches are much more predicted and technically equipped and can serve hockey for a long time.”Baljit, Shanmugam Join Coaching StaffFormer Indian goalkeeper Baljit Singh, who lost his vision in his right eye in a crazy accident in the national camp in July 2009, returned to the national settings last week. Do you think the initiative of internships for coaches will affect the future of Indian hockey?
For Baljit, who trained in Pandjab and the private academy, it is his first stint with the national team.“The unfortunate incident has shortened his nation team career, but I believe that Baljat is one of the best goalies that the country has created,” Harendra said. “This is his first coaching task with the national team and eager to return to sports. I believe he has something to offer.”Former junior international and seasoned coach from Karnataka, P Shanmugam, was also connected. Canara Bank’s employee has brought more than two decades of local coaching experience.“Shanmugam is working on the development of basic skills and the first touch I also did. We need a helping hand and he is the best in business,” Harendra said.
