A violent clash between a group of visitors from a neighboring state erupted on the footpath opposite the Vidhana Soudha on Saturday evening, triggering panic among the public and raising questions about the security lapse in one of the city’s high-security zones.
According to the police, the group had allegedly come to see the Vidhana Soudha building when a heated argument broke out between them, which quickly escalated into a physical fight. The police suspected that the clash stemmed from a personal dispute.
A video of the incident soon went viral on social media.
Police personnel reached the spot within seconds, dispersed the group with a gentle cane strike and brought the situation under control, a senior officer said.

Many people, including former city police commissioner Bhaskar Rao, questioned the security arrangements of the city police while condemning such an incident.
Reacting to the incident, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Central Division, Akshay M. Hakay said that the beat squad deployed there acted swiftly, dispersed the people and ensured that order was maintained.
A case was opened and further legal action was initiated.
