Visakhapatnam Collector sets June 30 deadline for Bhogapuram airport roads

The Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport in Bhogapuram is expected to be inaugurated in the first week of July and the district administration has intensified work on connectivity and supporting infrastructure ahead of the opening. The airport is expected to improve air connectivity and boost economic activity in northern Andhra Pradesh.

Visakhapatnam Collector M. Abhishikth Kishore on Wednesday (May 28, 2026) directed the officials of various departments to expedite the road connectivity work to the airport and complete it by June 30.

Reviewing the progress of airport connectivity and land pooling work of VMRDA in a meeting at the Collectorate, Mr. Kishore said that all the departments should work in coordination and complete the work expeditiously. He reviewed the condition of seven key roads connecting Visakhapatnam city with the airport and asked officials to improve other connecting roads as well.

The Collector told the officials to complete road construction, installation of signboards and street lights, construction of bus terminal and charging stations without delay. He also suggested meeting with representatives of Rapido, Uber and Ola to arrange transportation services to the airport.

He said review meetings would be held every week and asked officials to bring outstanding issues to his attention or to coordinate them with higher authorities.

Mr. Kishore also directed the VMRDA officials to speed up the land pooling and layout works and provide basic infrastructure in the layouts.

The meeting was attended by VMRDA Commissioner Tej Bharat, GVMC Commissioner Ketan Garg and officials of R&B, RTC and APEPDCL.
