Students, professional students and the exchange of visitors from India who are looking for US visas will have to transform their social media profiles into a “public” state to determine their identity and “admissibility” under US law, the United States Embassy announced this week.
The embassy also said that it could not “guarantee” that Indian students who no longer have a meeting will receive a slot for interviewing the visa “this summer”.
“The state ministry has committed to protecting our nation and our citizens by following the highest standards of national security and public security through our visa process. It is a privilege in the US visa.
The announcement in this regard was “effective immediately” for all individuals who applied for a visa that are not immigrated on F, M and J, which are intended for academic students, professional students and the exchange of visitors.
“Immediately effective, all individuals who apply for a visa F, M or J, are required to adjust the protection of personal data on all their social media accounts to the” public “to facilitate the check to introduce their identity and admissibility to the United States under US law.”
The announcements were reflected in recent cases concerning several international students to American academic institutions that were penalized for their remarks on international conflicts, especially the war of Israel-Palestine.
“We cannot guarantee that students or exchange of applicants for Visa visitors without existing appointment will be able to plan an interview this summer,” the embassy said.
Since the arrival of Trump’s administration in January, India and the United States have been consulted on ways to streamline the issue of visas and citizenship in accordance with the Trump Administration election campaign.
With approximately 3.3 Lakh student in US campuses, the Indians were the largest community of foreign students in the US, and the changes and profile of social media are expected to be reflected in the behavior of students in American campuses in social media.
