Board of Control for Cricket in India secretary Devajit Saikia dismissed rumors that the board had approached Virat Kohli to reverse his Test retirement. Rumors have been rife in the Indian media that the BCCI intends to talk to Kohli about a possible Test return, especially amid India’s disastrous run in red-ball cricket.
The Indian team recently let the home series slip away for the second time in two years, a result that many purists see as a significant blemish on India’s otherwise impressive home record. With the domestic record suffering twice in two years, media rumors suggested that the BCCI was ready to approach Virat and ask him to take back his Test retirement.

However, the BCCI secretary confirmed in an interview with AajTak that no request has been made to Virat Kohli regarding the reversal of his decision to quit the format. He further specified that the board of directors did not even initiate any discussion on the matter.
“What is being said about Virat Kohli is just rumours. There was no conversation with Kohli about it. Don’t give weight to rumours. Nothing like that happened,” Devajit Saikia told AajTak on Sunday 30 November.
Former cricketer Kevin Peitersen also responded to the rumors on social media and said that if the likes of Kohli and Rohit Sharma were interested in making a comeback, they should definitely be brought back into the fold.
“I don’t always believe what I read in the media or on social media. But if it is half true that both Virat and Rohit are considering playing Test cricket again, then it needs to be taken very seriously. The survival of Test cricket is a hot topic of conversation and if the biggest stars in the game want to play it again, they have to!” Kevin Pietersen wrote on X.
Virat Kohli currently plays only one format in international cricket. The batter returned to international fray with an ODI against South Africa. Kohli played brilliantly in Ranchi and hit his 52nd ODI hundred. He formed a partnership of over 100 runs with Rohit Sharma and helped India to a huge total in the first match of the series.
