Former captain Virat Kohli trained on the eve of Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s IPL 2026 match against visiting Lucknow Super Giants on Tuesday, allaying concerns about his participation in the game on Wednesday, April 15. Kohli had an ankle injury scare during RCB a significant win over Mumbai Indians on Sunday.
Kohli was observed facing bowlers and fielding specialists, showing no signs of discomfort while batting in the nets. Young pacer Rasikh Dar, who addressed the media on Tuesday, did not comment on the injury situation. RCB will decide on Kohli’s availability after training.
Earlier on Tuesday, buzz on social media suggested that Kohli would not go to Bengaluru with the team and rest in Mumbai, potentially missing Wednesday’s match.
The 37-year-old did not take the field during Mumbai Indians’ chase of 241 on Sunday. Kohli scored 50 off 38 balls, which contributed to their highest total at the Wankhede Stadium. However, the star batsman seemed frustrated with his knock, which was perceived to be slower compared to his teammates. Phil Salt, who opened alongside Kohli, scored 78 off just 36 balls while Rajat Patidar hit 53 off 20 balls to dominate the spinners for Mumbai Indians.
Tim David’s quickfire 34 off 16 balls, including three sixes and two boundaries, ensured RCB an above average total.
Kohli’s frustration was evident he threw his helmet and gloves to the ground after his release. Despite his efforts, he struggled to accelerate against the Mumbai Indians spinners after the powerplay.
Aiming to continue their winning streak, RCB will be hoping to include Virat Kohli in the playing XI, especially at home where he has consistently excelled.
ROHIT SHARMA INJURY UPDATE
Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians are worried about Rohit Sharma’s fitness after he suffered a suspected hamstring injury. Rohit went out injured after scoring 19 off 13 deliveries during MI’s failed chase of 241.
Rohit Sharma, who got injured during Sunday’s match against RCB, underwent a scan in Mumbai on Monday to assess the injury. The results were expected on Tuesday.
Sources suggest that he is unlikely to be available for Mumbai Indians’ home match against Punjab Kings on Thursday, April 16, although the final decision will depend on the scan results.
