Rajat Patidar provided an update on Virat Kohli’s injury after the Royal Challengers Bangalore batsman opted not to play in the second innings of their win against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday, April 12. Kohli had an uneven day with the bat despite scoring his second fifty of the season.

Lauded for re-emerging with a fresh approach this season, Kohli struggled to maintain his usual rhythm and scored 50 runs off 38 balls. This was a significant drop from his previous three innings where his strike tally crossed 150 but fell to 131.58 against Mumbai Indians.
Kohli expressed visible frustration after his dismissal, he threw away his helmet and gloves in anger. An ankle problem prevented him from fielding as RCB secured an 18-run win. At the post-match presentation, Patidar said the extent of Kohli’s injury was unclear but insisted the decision to keep him off the field was a precautionary measure.
“I don’t know yet, but I think he’s fine,” Patidar said.
Despite Kohli’s subdued batting, fifties from Phil Salt and Patidar helped RCB post an impressive total of 240 runs, which the Bombay Indians failed to pursue.
Patidar credited Salt and Kohli for laying a solid foundation that allowed the rest of the batting line-up, including himself, to play aggressively.
“It’s more clear on things in terms of batting approach. The way Virat bhai and Salt started, they kept us in the driver’s seat. Then a good cameo from me and the team, I think it was purely a team effort,” he said.
The charged atmosphere at the Wankhede acted as a home ground advantage for RCB, with chants supporting the team throughout the match. Patidar acknowledged the role of the fans in creating this environment.
“It’s an amazing feeling to come here to the Wankhede Stadium and feel the atmosphere, the fans. It’s a different feeling to play in a packed stadium,” he added.
RCB will return to Bengaluru to take on Lucknow Super Giants at the Chinnaswamy Stadium on April 15.
