Virat Kohli ignores calls, reports after India’s promising comeback: Amit Mishra makes a huge claim

Former India pacer Amit Mishra believes that an injury during the 2017 T20I against England in Bengaluru could have ended his international career prematurely. Mishra, who never played for India again after that match, claimed that he was assured of a comeback by then head coach Anil Kumble and captain Virat Kohli once he returned to full fitness. However, he claimed that Kohli stopped responding to his calls and messages after he recovered.Mishra made these claims during an episode of a podcast hosted by former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra. He said the assurances from Kumble and Kohli did not translate into a return to the national team, with the match against England eventually becoming his last international appearance for India.“During that time in Bangalore, I injured my leg. And when I left after the injury, Anil Kumble was the coach. So I told Anil Bhai, I said, ‘Anil Bhai…’. He said, ‘Don’t worry. Once you are fit, you will automatically come back,'” Mishra claimed during the podcast. He said he also spoke to Kohli, who took over as captain, and received similar assurances about his place in the team.“Then Virat Kohli became the captain after that. I also asked Virat Kohli and said, ‘Brother, what needs to be done?’ He said, ‘Don’t worry. Be fully fit and comfortable and you are there (in the team),” he added.Mishra said that after recovering from the injury, he contacted Kohli to inquire about his chances of returning to the Indian team. Kohli told him he would provide an update within seven to 10 days, but Mishra claimed he never heard from the former India captain.“So I went to him. I asked, ‘Brother, what is the situation?’ So he said, “I’ll let you know in a week to ten days.” Then bro, a week passed, two weeks passed, three weeks passed, absolutely no update from him. I called him… so he didn’t pick up the call. I wrote him a message but no response,” Mishra said, accusing Kohli of not keeping his promise.Mishra also said that several other players who suffered more serious injuries and spent extended periods on the sidelines have returned to the national team once they were fit. He felt he was not given the same opportunity and said he was never given an explanation of what happened.“I called again, he didn’t answer. I called twice more, still nothing … so I hung up. Then I thought, ‘Brother, what can we do?’ If someone doesn’t want you, what can you do? When the players who were injured more seriously than you and were injured for much longer came back… but to this day I have not received an answer.”
