Donning the green jersey as part of their ‘green initiative’, defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru saw star batsman Virat Kohli experience a mixed ride at the crease. Against Delhi Capitals at Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Saturday, Kohli scored 19 runs off 13 balls and hit three boundaries before being dismissed off the first ball of a spell by Lungi Ngidi.
Since its inception in 2011, RCB’s Green Initiative has focused on integrating sustainability into its operations with a focus on measurement, accountability and fan engagement with the broader goal of achieving carbon positivity. The franchise continues to use the green jersey as a symbol of its environmental commitment while hosting one of the most watched teams in the league.

Over the years, Kohli he remained one of RCB’s most consistent performers and front shooters. In the current season, he was once again among the key contributors to the franchise. Overall in the green jersey, Kohli has amassed 432 runs in 15 matches, including one century and three half-centuries, underscoring his ability to deliver impressive knocks in the special kit. KOHLI’S BEST PERFORMANCE IN GREEN
An outstanding performance by the former Indian captain in the green jersey, he came up against the now-defunct Gujarat Lions in 2016, when Kohli produced a masterclass 109 off 55 balls. This innings guided RCB to an impressive 144-run victory at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. The match is best remembered for the record-breaking 229-run partnership between Kohli and AB de Villiers, where the South African batsman stole the limelight by scoring 129 off 52 deliveries and was named man of the match. Kohli also scored two golden ducks in the jersey in 2023 and 2024.
He failed to make a big impact against Delhi Capitals on Saturday, departing before the end of the power-play when RCB looked to gain momentum early in the innings. The Delhi Capitals bowling attack struggled to keep things tight and restricted RCB to 59 runs in the over, with Phil Salt trying to counter-attack from the other end.
Despite moments of individual brilliance over the years, RCB’s overall record in the green jersey has been underwhelming. The team managed just five wins from 14 matches in the special set, along with one shutout, highlighting the inconsistency even during the sustainability themed matches.
