
Bhagwant Mann was visiting South Korea when he met a Korean woman. She spoke fluently to the Punjabi Chief Minister of Punjab so he was excited. The video of their interaction has now gone viral on social media, garnering nearly 1 million views on Instagram.
In the video, the woman greets CM Mann with folded hands and introduces herself as Simran Kaur. Then he says his Korean name as well.
She says she is a Korean Punjabi who became a part of a Punjabi family after marriage. Her husband adds that they have been married for 20 years.
“We’ve been married for 20 years,” the husband says in the video.
“It’s a great feeling to meet you in Korea,” says the wife.
Mann, curious, praises her fluency. Even one of his co-workers praises her, saying that she speaks “pure Punjabi”. CM then asks her how she learned the language. Mann is visibly amused by her response.
“My Saasu Saura (mother-in-law and father-in-law) taught me the language,” he says, and CM Mann bursts out laughing.
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann later felicitated the Punjabi-Korean woman. He is the one who shared the video on Instagram.
“For us, our mother tongue Punjabi is not just a language… it’s our identity. I had the opportunity to meet the couple during my visit to South Korea. Hearing their daughter, who was born in Korea, speak Punjabi made me extremely happy,” Mann wrote on Instagram, sharing a video of the interaction.

Bhagwant Mann is currently in South Korea on a two-day visit. Its main objective is to bring Korean companies to Punjab ahead of the Progressive Punjab Investors’ Summit 2026 on 13-15 march He is accompanied by Industries Minister Sanjeev Arora and other senior officials.
CM Mann seeks investments in food processing, agricultural technology, renewable energy, defense, aerospace and urban infrastructure. He met with big Korean companies and held a round table on the ease of doing business. He met with companies such as Daewoo E&C, GS Engineering & Construction and Nongshim.
He also visited Pangyo Techno Valley. In the video, he mentions that 1178 companies are in Korea’s Silicon Valley. They encourage people to come in and explain their investment ideas, he says. According to him, such individuals can contribute to the development of Punjab.
