The Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR) showed a significant increase in influenza infections, controlled trunks H3N2, RSV and Victoria.
ICMR data shows a clear and concerning trend in H3N2 in 2025. Cases began to rise in July (28 weeks), with estimated 10-15 infections. By the end of July (31 week) the number of more than doubled to 20–30 and continued to climb to August (34 weeks) and reached 40-50 cases.
The peak was recorded in September (37th week), with 71 reported cases.
The overall level of positivity for tension based on samples taken from hospitals and community also showed a steady increase from late July to August. Of the approximately 1,400 samples tested each week, the positivity at the end of July (30th week) increased from about 0.7% to the peak 2.8% – 3.6% in August (34 week).

The head of the ICMR scientist, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, warned against self -healing. “People should avoid self -healing. It is important to consult a doctor for proper diagnosis and treatment, especially if fever lasts for more than three days or is accompanied by breath.”
From the 28th to the 37th week of 2025 India also recorded the main increase in the cases of RSV, according to data on the public boarding of the ICMR.
The trend, typical during the monsoon season, began with a sharp increase of about 28 weeks (July) and quickly escalated over weeks 32 to 35 (August) and created a steep curve up on the graph. The focus seemed to have reached the peak in weeks 36 and 37 (September).
This increase was accompanied by a higher degree of hospitalization, especially in children. Patients reported more severe symptoms, including high fever, body pain and persistent coughing for up to two weeks. While most healthy individuals have recovered, doctors have noticed complications such as bronchitis and pneumonia in vulnerable groups such as young children, elderly people and those who already have existing conditions.

Experts advise carefully
Dr. Tymya Swaminathan, a former main scientist, said these viral growths are not new, but are now monitored more efficiently. She noted that viruses regularly mutate, making them easier to spread.
“Although they are typical respiratory viruses, they can be fatal in a small number of cases, especially in the elders and those that have basic health problems,” she said. “Because we cannot completely stop infections, we need to protect ourselves. The flu is an excellent way to reduce the risk of serious diseases. When infections grow, it is also wise to wear masks in crowded areas and often wash hands.”
Dr. Rohit Sharma, an internal medicine consultant in Apollo Spectra Hospital in Jaipur, said that the increase in cases underlines the need for greater public and readiness awareness.
