Up to 110 people were arrested earlier in connection with violence that broke out in the parts of Wes Bengal during the protest against the WAQF Act (amendment) on Friday. Three people have so far died in violence.

6. Major Minister Mamata Baerjee said that the WAQF law (amendment) would not be introduced in West Bengal on Saturday. “Remember that we have not done a law over which many are upset. The law has been made by a central government. The answer you want should therefore be required from the central government,” CM said in the X post.
“We have explained our position in this matter – we do not support this law. This law will not be implemented in our state. So what is unrest,” she asked.
Her remarks came when fresh violence was reported from Dhuliana in Murshidabad’s SamSerganj, where one person suffered a bullet injury.
7. Several vehicles, including police vans, were ignited, the stones were thrown into security forces and the roads were blocked when the violence swung Malda, Murshidabad, South 24 Parganas and Hooghly districts during the protests over the new legislation on Friday.
