Indian Eenvoy Vinay Mohan Kwatra on Friday (August 22, 2025) discussed the “mutually beneficial business engagement” and “energy security” with US lawmakers in the middle of the tension between Washington and the new Delh.
The Indian Ambassador met Senator Bill Hagery and thanked him for “consistent and strong partnership in India and the US”. “He informed him about the ongoing bilateral discussions about the fair, balanced and mutually favorable business engagement,” said the Indian envoy to the social media.
He also shared “the perspectives of the energy security of India and the growing trade between India and the US in hydrocarbons”.
Mr. Kwatra also organized a “productive interview” with Congressman Greg Landsman and informed him about the development of bilateral business involvement.
“He informed him about the recent development of bilateral business involvement and energy security and the growing partnership of hydrocarbons between our countries,” he said on social media.
Previously, Mr. Kwatra met with repeat Josh Gottheimer, the National Security Agency and Cyber Subcommittee, House Intelligence Committee, and discussed the “two -way oil and gas trade” and “mutually beneficial business links”. “Shared updates about the latest development in bilateral energy cooperation, including two -way oil and gas trade and balanced, fair and mutually beneficial business ties,” Mr. Kwatra said on Social Media on Thursday.
Mr. Kwatra met 16 US lawmakers since August 9, as revealed by his contributions to social media.
A series of meetings comes in the middle of tensions in India-USA relations after US President Donald Trump deposited tariffs in India a total of 50 percent. This includes 25 percent for Russian oil purchases in Delhi, which will come into effect from August 27.
India advocates its purchase of Russian oil and claims that its energy contracts are powered by the national interest and dynamics of the market.
India turned to the purchase of Russian oil sold for a discount after the Western countries deposited sanctions on Moscow and in February 2022 avoided its supplies over the invasion of Ukraine.
