A village accountant was caught red-handed by the Lokayukta police while accepting a bribe of ₹2.5 million for carrying out domestic mutation in Bidar district on Tuesday.
According to officials, Mahadev Shantappa, a resident of Markunda village in Bidar taluk, approached village accountant Shivakumar seeking mutation of his house.
It is said that Shivakumar, along with his associate Sharanayya Swami, demanded a bribe of ₹5 lakh for the work to be done.
Unwilling to pay the bribe, Shantappa lodged a complaint with the Lokayukta police in Bidar.
Subsequently, a trap was laid at a dhaba on the outskirts of Markunda village on Tuesday, where it was decided that an advance of ₹2.5 million would be paid.
A team led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Bidar Lokayukta Hanumantharaya caught Shivakumar and Sharanayya Swami while they were accepting bribe from the complainant.
Both accused were taken into custody.
