Efforts are underway to turn Vijayawada into a major sports hub, MP Kesineni Sivanath said, announcing that the city’s indoor stadiums will be fully functional by December to host upcoming badminton tournaments.
A review meeting was held at the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) headquarters command room on Tuesday to discuss the modernization work being carried out at the Indira Gandhi Municipal Stadium, Vidyadharapuram Stadium and Makineni Basava Punnaiah Stadium. The upgrades are aimed at enabling Vijayawada to host national and international sports competitions.
During the meeting, officials reviewed plans for renovations, installation of modern facilities, expansion of facilities for athletes and initiatives to support local sports activities. They agreed that all departments will work together to develop Vijayawada into a premier sports hub in the state, providing better infrastructure for residents and sportspersons alike. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Sivanath said that all the sports grounds in the city are being upgraded to meet national and international standards. He added that holding such high-level tournaments would not only strengthen the sports ecosystem but also boost the city’s economy.
VMC Commissioner Dhyanachandra HM, Additional Commissioner (Projects) D. Chandrasekhar, Andhra Pradesh Sports Authority Chairman A. Ravi Naidu and others were present.
