Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam founder and actor C. Joseph Vijay on Sunday (May 10, 2026) became the second debutant lawmaker to be sworn in as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu since 1967. He is also the first member of a minority faith (Christian) to hold the highest office in the state.
In September 2001, O. Panneerselvam was sworn in as Chief Minister in her first term as a legislator after the Supreme Court removed Jayalalithaa from the Chief Ministership due to her disqualification from being a legislator due to convictions in the TANSI land deal cases.
