The Hyderabad City-I unit of the Vigilance and Enforcement Department conducted a surprise route check in the city and levied over Rs 21.5 lakh in taxes and fines during the operation.
The checks were conducted on the night of January 22-23 between 11pm and 4am at Nagole X Road, Changicherla X Road and adjoining areas. The operation was carried out by Vigilance and Enforcement officials along with personnel from the Motor Vehicles Department and the License Fee Inspector from the Mines Department.
During the drive, 11 cases were registered under the Motor Vehicle Act for violations of regulations including overloading, licensing and permits. Vehicles involved in the offenses were impounded and drivers were fined around ₹1.37 million. Two cases of violations related to transportation of sand have been registered under the Mining Act, with penalties of around ₹22,918 being imposed.
Besides, three cases were registered under the GST Act during which tax evasion of around ₹ 19.91 lakh was detected.
The Vigilance and Enforcement Department said the checks were part of ongoing efforts to prevent leakage of public revenue and misuse of government funds and natural resources. The public has been urged to report any irregularities or misuse of government resources to the ministry through the toll-free number 14432.
