View fee structure on entry by June 5, private schools said
The Directorate of Private Schools, functioning under the school education department, has directed all private schools in Tamil Nadu to publish their tuition fees by June 10.
The directive follows the Tamil Nadu Information Commission’s recent decision that the tuition fee structure should be displayed at the entrance of schools. The commission directed the Directorate of Private Schools to ensure compliance with its order and submit a report by June 15. “It has already been instructed that all types of private self-financing schools operating under the Directorate of Private Schools should not charge any fees other than school fees,” the Directorate’s circular said.
The order directed the principals of all private nursery, primary, matriculation, CBSE and other boarding schools to publicize the fee structure set by the School Fee Fixation Committee for the benefit of members of the public. Fees must also be published on schools’ websites and tuition must be printed by grade on the admission application.
“All private nursery, primary, matriculation, CBSE and other boarding schools must publish their tuition fees in a transparent manner on the notice board…” the circular said.
The fee structure must be published in schools by June 5 and on school websites by June 10. “The details should be submitted to this authority as a report and the concerned Director of Education must be informed,” the circular said. He has asked all education executives to verify that the fee structure is displayed during inspections and obtain photographic evidence of the same.
