Vietnam Phu Quoc boat tragedy: Bodies of 15 Indian tourists flown home

A plane carrying the bodies of 15 Indian citizens killed last week in a boat tragedy in Vietnam has landed at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport.
Vietnam Airlines flight VN 979 from Ho Chi Minh City landed at 21:19 on Monday (July 13, 2026).
Of the 15 victims, 10 were from Tamil Nadu, three from Andhra Pradesh and two from Kerala. Two of the dead were women.
The bodies will be flown to Coimbatore, Chennai, Hyderabad and Trivandrum, sources said.
A speedboat carrying 32 Indian tourists and four local crew capsized near Hon May Rut Ngoai off Phu Quoc Island on Friday (July 10), killing 15 Indian tourists.
Sixteen others were rescued and returned to India after receiving medical treatment, while one survivor remains in a critical condition in a hospital in Phu Quoc.
The tourists were reportedly returning from visiting the island when the speedboat capsized about 400 meters from Hon May Rut Ngoai Island.
