In a disturbing incident in India’s financial capital, Mumbai, a foreign woman allegedly “harassed” two men. The woman, who goes by the name Ines Faria, shared her ordeal on Instagram; her video has now gone viral. Faria, who is from Portugal, explained that she had been in Mumbai for two months and that most of her experiences had been “beautiful and kind”.
The Portuguese woman went on to emphasize the importance of “safety and comfort” and detailed the incident via an Instagram role.
What does a viral video show?
In the video, Faria is seen walking through a crowded public space in Mumbai, looking visibly tense as she is allegedly watched closely by two men. He continues recording with a forced, uneasy smile, underscoring his discomfort and fear during the encounter. Towards the end of the clip, he appears increasingly frustrated and is seen pushing both men away to create distance.
“This was the first time something like this happened to me in India and I’ve been here for 2 months now. Most of my experiences have been lovely, kind and welcoming,” she wrote.
“They followed us and asked for photos even though I said no multiple times. I didn’t feel comfortable and they were super pushy. They followed us for over 15 minutes and it got really overwhelming. Just remember that ‘no’ is a whole sentence. And your safety and comfort always come first,” she added.
What measures did the police take?
As the video went viral, it also caught the attention of police officials. According to a report by news agency PTI, the incident took place in South Mumbai and Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Satyanarayan Chowdhary said that the local police and Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 3) have launched an investigation.
“They are already at work. Proper legal action will be taken,” he said.
The police are currently trying to identify and track down the perpetrators.
