Veteran journalist K. Govindan Kutty is dead

Veteran journalist and writer K. Govindan Kutty passed away in Thiruvananthapuram on Thursday. He was 81. During a long and eventful journalistic career, Mr. Govindan Kutty worked with news organizations including All India Radio, The Indian Express and India Today. Highly respected among his peers, Mr. Govindan Kutty was the first to report the miraculous survival of the then Prime Minister Morarji Desai in the 1977 plane crash in Jorhat, Assam. He was the AIR correspondent accompanying the Prime Minister then. Mr. Govindan Kutty has written several books including ‘Seshan: An Intimate Story’ on former Chief Election Commissioner TN Seshan, ‘K. Karunakaran, Political Biography,’ on former Chief Minister of Kerala, and ‘Vararuchi’s Children: Aspects of Kerala.’ Other works include ‘KM Mani, A Study of Regionalism.’ Mr. Govindan Kutty leaves behind his wife Saradamona and two children.
