
The veteran filmmaker Chandra Barot, known for the direction of the cult classic Don from 1978 in the lead role of Amitabh Bachchan, died on Sunday at the age of 86.
His wife Deep Barot confirmed to India and noted that he had been fighting lung fibrosis for the past seven years.

Barot was treated in Guru Nanak Hospital in Bandra in the care of Dr. Manish Shetty and, according to The Times of India, was previously admitted to Jaslok Hospital.
Chandra Barot was born and grew up in Tanzania and began his professional life at the bank and then moved to India to devote himself to his career in the films under the mentor of actor Manoj Kumar.
He began as an assistant director on several remarkable films, including Purab Aur Pachhim, Yaadgaar, Shor and Roti. He worked closely with Manoj Kumar as his assistant in Purab Aur Pachhim.

Barot made his mark in the Indian cinema by driving the cult classic from 1978 Don. After his success he continued in the director of the Bengal film Aashrita in 1989, which Grossed £3 Crore, followed by Pyar Bhara Dil in 1991. Many of his later projects – including the boss, Neil Ko Pánadna … impossible and Hong Kong Script was postponed or never released.
Despite this, Don became a film monument and eventually evolved into a popular franchise with his legacy in Bollywood.
