Senior advocate DLN Rao, died on Monday. He was a senior member of the Karnataka Bar and one of the leading lawyers in the country specializing in mining law. It is widely recognized as the underground rail system of the Bengaluru Metro.

The death of DLN Rao has left a void in the fraternity. The cause of his death remains unknown at the time of publication of this article.
His funeral will be held on Monday, Live Law reported.
Who was Advocate DLN Rao
DLN Rao has been appointed as Senior Advocate of Karnataka High Court. With more than five decades of legal experience, he is primarily known for his extensive practice both before the Karnataka High Court and the Supreme Court. His best achievements were mainly in the areas of mining, land acquisition, infrastructure and public law.
He was among India’s leading advocates who will be remembered for his contribution to the Bar and legal practice in the country.
Key career achievements
Rao played a prominent role in the Namma Metro project litigation in Bengaluru.
In 2010, the Karnataka High Court appointed him as amicus curiae in proceedings related to the proposed metro section between Vidhana Soudha and the High Court through the Cubbon Park area.
An amicus curiae (literally meaning “friend of the court”) is an independent advisor—usually a lawyer, expert, or organization appointed or authorized by the court to provide information, expertise, or insight into a particular case.
The Bench sought his assistance in view of the wider implications of the proposed project.
The High Court subsequently allowed the underground metro project. But it also imposed guarantees regarding the restoration of land and the protection of urban greenery.
Rao, while assisting the court in the matter, raised concerns about the trees that will be felled for the project and the use of outbuildings associated with the metro project.
The deceased advocate was said to have been active in key matters before his death.
