Venezuela bombing update: At least seven explosions and low-flying planes were reportedly heard around 2:00 a.m. (local time) Saturday in Venezuela’s capital, Caracas. the attacks occurred in the capital Caracas and in the states of Miranda, Aragua and La Guaira.
CNN reported power outages in several neighborhoods after the alleged strikes.
There was no immediate information on casualties or damage.
People in various neighborhoods ran into the streets after the explosions. A witness told the AP: “The whole ground shook. It’s terrible. We heard explosions and planes in the distance.”
What caused the explosion?
It was not immediately clear what caused the explosions. But according to the Associated Press, the Venezuelan government has accused the US of attacks on civilian and military installations in many states.
The Pentagon and the White House did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
The explosions occurred as the US military targeted boats believed to be drug smugglers. On Friday, Venezuela said it was open to negotiations on an anti-drug deal with the US.
