In coordination with the Animal Breeding Department, Anti-Rabies Anti-Rabies and the Sterilization Program Vellore Corporation for Community Dogs according to the Rules for Contraception of Animals (Dogs) on Thursday 2001.
Corporation officials said that the aim was to reduce the risk of rabies and control the growing population of vicious dogs in the city.
The VR Subbubulaxmi Collector started the drive in the presence of the mayor of Sujath Anandakumar and the Commissioner for Corporation P. Janaki Ravendran at the veterinary clinic in the city.
“The first phase of the drive is to vaccinate identified community dogs, especially in the Veloreské Město, before the introduction of sterilization. Together with the corporational officials, there will be a detailed drive schedule in the coming days,” said G. Anduvan, assistant director, Vellore (Vellore).
It is estimated that the company identified more than 37,000 community dogs against 9,000 dogs ten years ago in its four zones and covered all 60 departments in the city. The animal breeding department also included around 15,000 community dogs in the district villages.
The veterinarians said that the growth of the population and the lack of basic facilities led to overloaded residential colonies in the city, which further led to the spread of community dogs. According to the study, the city witnesses around 1.5 lakh population every day.
Most community dogs were found in crowded areas such as bus terminals, railway stations, markets, schools and corporate offices. Deworming, anti-rabiesvaccination and vaccines for skin diseases will be administered according to the plan.
On average, 20 dogs will be treated at identified places in each zone within the corporation limits. The training will be handed over to the company’s healthcare professionals to manage and vaccinate them. Vaccination will also be carried out at four veterinary clinics in the city.
Corporation officials said the Center of Animal Contraception (ABC), which was built in 2009, is under the renovation. The renewal of the center, which will be completed in June, includes the establishment of surgical theaters and other infrastructure facilities.
Once reopened, a full -fledged sterilization of community dogs will be performed in the renovated center. Until then, veterinary and medical clinics and offices of Corporation Ward will be used to vaccinate animals.
