Almost a month after the outrage of the accusation of the Muslim community from an attempt to expand its influence in Kerala, Sree Narayan Dharma Paripalana (SNDP) Yogam, General Secretary of Vellappally Natesan again triggered controversy by claiming that Kottayam was under Christian dominance.
On Saturday, he focused on Meenachil-Kaduthuruthy SNDP Taluk, Mr. Nahesan claimed that social justice was rejected to the Ezhava community and that educational opportunities were not fairly distributed. He emphasized political insufficient representation and pointed out that there was only one ezhava in the Kottayam district, while “everyone else is the ones who walk along the way of the cross.”
“He’s not a communalist”
He defends himself before accusation of communalism and said, “I’m not a communalist. I’m talking only for my community. When I raise these problems, it’s marked as a community. Even if you burn me alive, I don’t stretch my words.
He also said that there was no single school or college under the SNDP yogam in Pala. While institutions operated by religious groups prosper, those that promote secularism remain oppressed, he said.
Mr. Nahesan also accused the media of disrupting his earlier speech in Malappuram and claimed that the criticism against him only retreated after the Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan issued a statement.
To iuml and secularism
On this occasion, he also questioned the obligation of the Indian Union Muslim League (iuml) to secularism. “Does iuml have any non -Muslim MLA?” He asked and further accused Iuml of the spread of the “poison of the community” and added that even the name of the party reflected its sectarian nature. “The league must be said directly. This is my responsibility,” he said.
At the state level of the inauguration of the meeting of branches leading yogam trade unions last month, Mr. Nahesan similarly caused controversy when he warned that the Muslim community would soon become mostly in Kerala and criticize “disproportionate interventions of the community on state administrative matters”.
