Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has assured the people of Prakasam district that the Veligonda project will be completed by 2026. Once operational, the project will provide water to drought-prone areas like Kanigiri, Yerragondapalem, Giddalur and Markapuram, making them fertile agricultural land, he said.
He addressed the local people after inaugurating the MSME Park at Pedairlapadu village in Pedacherlo Palle mandal of the district on Tuesday. “The NDA government is giving special attention to backward areas of the state. We will bring industry and water to these areas in Prakasam district,” the chief minister said.
“We will complete the Veligonda project by 2026 and Kanigiri will soon become ‘Kanakapatnam’ (golden city). We promised before the elections to provide water to this constituency and we will deliver it very soon. We will bring water not only from Godavari but also from Srisailam,” Mr Naidu said, accusing the previous government of neglecting to complete the project.
“The project would be completed by 2020 if we come to power in the 2019 general elections. People’s problems remained unresolved because of the policies of the previous government. This should not happen again in the future,” he added. Ongole MP Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy and local MLA Mukku Ugra Narasimha Reddy were also present on the occasion.
