In a scathing attack, Sree Narayana Dharma Paripalana (SNDP) Yoga General Secretary Vellappally Natesan called for the dissolution of the Devaswom boards. He made the demand in an editorial published in Yoganadam, the mouthpiece of SNDP Yogam.
“All the five Devaswom boards are mired in corruption and looting. The Sabarimala gold heist controversy has plunged the government and the Devaswom boards into crisis,” the article said.
Mr. Natesan said that the Travancore Devaswom Board and other boards continue to function as they are now only because of the intervention of the Kerala High Court. He demanded that the entire system be dismantled and replaced by a new administrative structure that would give responsibility to civil servants and include politicians.
SNDP General Secretary Yogam suggested that the number of Devaswom boards be reduced to a maximum of two. He also demanded that a separate minister be appointed exclusively for Devaswom affairs.
