Velankanni-bound tourist bus overturns near Nellore, 16 injured

A private tourist bus hit a railing on the national highway and overturned near Chintareddypalem in Nellore early Thursday (May 28, 2026). Three passengers were seriously injured and 13 others suffered minor injuries out of 43 people on the bus

According to Nellore North traffic police, 39 members of the group and their relatives were traveling from Gudipadu village in Pedapadu mandal in Eluru district to Velankanni Mata Church in Tamil Nadu. There were also two drivers and two cooks on the bus.

The bus hit the highway guardrail, which is 2.5 feet high, and overturned near the Chintareddypalem junction at 3:10 am. Of the injured, 13 suffered minor injuries, two had fractures and the boy suffered a head injury. Police said the accident occurred due to driver negligence.

The injured were admitted to Medicover Hospital and received treatment. As the driver was also injured, the police could not question him. Blood samples were taken to determine if he was under the influence. The investigation is ongoing.
