Leader of Opposition VD Satheesan on Sunday (February 15, 2026) hit out at the state government for the lack of strict action against Students Federation of India (SFI) members who allegedly assaulted a police officer in Thiruvananthapuram, saying the Home Ministry has degenerated into a mafia group that provides protection to criminals. SFI members allegedly assaulted a police officer at a mall in the capital recently in retaliation for an attack on one of their members during New Year’s Eve.
“The video shows the SFI activists chasing the policeman inside the mall, provoking him, surrounding him and beating him. Yet the beaten policeman was given a non-bailable trial. His sister who was with him was also accused. The charge is that both of them were attacked with weapons. Meanwhile, only trivial parts of the gang that attacked him were filed against him and is it not the gang that was attacked first? where Pinarayi Vijayan protected the criminal CPI(M) gangs,” Mr. Satheesan alleged.
He said the people will end the LDF regime which feeds and shelters criminals.
